Stupid Human Tricks: Riding a bike on rollers with no hands

I warned you via the last post.. here it is. I thought I was pretty cool until I found this freak, who has probably been doing this for a lot more than the 30 seconds that I practiced. I feel as foolish as I look.

I think it is cool, because as from what I can see it is sort of difficult, right? You have a good balance though, but should I be worried? I am not sure whether I should ask you what you will try next.
"Insan aklina dusene kadar.." :)

Nice to see you again.

I've never seen a machine like that where the back wheel wasn't locked in place. That's pretty cool though.

No worries Di, once I get some more practice it will come as naturally as breathing. Mind you, riding a bicycle on this contraption called rollers is difficult if not impossible for most people, even using two hands! Nice to see you as well.

alley cat: Rollers have been around for a long time. They force you to learn balance, track a straight line, use a circular pedal stroke, smooth power, etc. The resistance is low (unless you have a fan or magnetic or fluid resistance added) but one can compensate by simply using a large enough gear. There's enough friction overall to make you work and get the heart rate up. If your form is sloppy, you won't stay upright though!

the first big group ride of the year... there are three types of riders there...

one group - generally not around long are the ones who get dropped early cause they haven't been riding the bike...

second group - trainer riders, bike locked into place, often have power, and fitness but can't hold a line to save their life and are horrible to draft off, ie squirrelly...

third group - roller folks, just as fast or faster than the trainer folk, can ride on the white line for miles and never touch the black top, they offer the best draft and have smooth accelerations and great pedaling form... typically they prefer to spend as much time in the wind leading the pack as it takes less energy than trying to draft behind group number two and thus wind up stronger and fitter faster than the trainer tree rats...
