The worst of times, the best..

..Of times. Today marks a new low in Murat's morale. For the first time in my career, I am told by a customer that they do not want me managing their project. Said customer is a project manager for a general contractor, and he is Lebanese just like his employer. You might think that a Turk a Lebanese would hit off swimmingly.. But it's not to be. This guy has gone out of his way to let me know he doesn't like me, and he hasn't hesitated to throw me under the bus at every possible opportunity.
Needless to say, I cut out of work an hour early for the Croatia match, which obviously lifted my spirits immensely, by the end. As I watched the game, almost a full bottle of wine disappeared, I was so down.. By the end of the penalty kicks I was drinking for joy, not sorrow. Then I suited up and went out for a 90 minute easy spin. Yes I was RWI.. Riding while intoxicated. Felt pretty good too. I was all over the place emotionally, at times laughing about the soccer game and other times tearing and choking up thinking about my dad and my situation at work..
Now I'm at my favorite sushi place treating myself to whatever I like to eat.. Just polished off a Spicy Tuna Salad. Next up, Macho Roll (salmon and mackeral with scallions) And I've switched to drinking Coke. Thanks for reading.

But first Netherlands have to beat Russia... and then maybe even Spain...

Russia vs. Turkey for the finals; a european cup with no western europeans. Hell yeahhh!!

Internation Musing said...

may the best win. spain is still out there, so are the germans.
for me were the portuguese, spanish, russians and the dutch the teams to watch.
sorry for you torkmonk to show some racist hatred...

When this tournament is well over, no one will remember the spanish, the russians, the portuguese, or the dutch . . . but will all talk about the most exciting team to watch . . . Turkey!

Win or lose, Turkey has already accomplished a lot more than I thought it would . . .

But as far as real talent, I would've thought the Dutch had the best chance to win it all . . .

I didnt read that much about turkey's team in the first 2 weeks, only that they received 14 yellow and one red cart, and had a good houdini act...
Most exiting? first 3 were bored, last one turkey played pure anti football. that the endings were spectactular, no doubt about that, but for turks and their oponents only...
dont sell the coat before you shoot the bear..

I don't know where you've been for the past two weeks, but maybe you should reread my comment.

Turkey has been the most exciting team to watch in an otherwise boring soccer competition.

I never claimed Turkey played the best soccer.

Read before you weep about the Orange Crush!

No one expected Turkey to be in the Final Four, but guess what?

Turkey is in the Final Four!

They must be doing something right.

Try to listen to people around you who might know better than you. The whole world thinks Turkey IS the most exciting thing about this competition!

Metin,

I think you are projecting your own enthusiasm. The whole world does not think that Turkey is the most exciting team. Heck, until I read this, I didn't know they had a team. Sorry, no insult to Turkey intended, but saying that is like saying that the World Series of Baseball is truly a "world" series when the only teams are from North America.

'sigh'
WE are talking here about football=soccer, not american football.
Niente, mayben a pocco in Spanish, Latin American press about Turkey.
European press is talking about Russia, and will Ronaldo goes to Real Madrid for 100 mill euro's.
The Italian, French and Spanish press are still talking about the fact that Spain won from Italy after 84 years. And if the European press is talking about 'Turkey the comeback kids', its often about Lucky Turkey!
Listen to people around me? They say the same as I write down here: that the Turkish media is getting crazy doesnt mean that the whole world is gettig crazy about how 'exited' turkey is....

nhrider: I was referring to the 'soccer world.' I do realize that on ESPN currently baseball rules, but when ESPN's soccer hour comes into play, every announcer, every commentator, every reporter has said repeatedly that Turkey is the most exciting team in this year's Euro 2008 Tournament.

Again, this is only during the Euro 2008 programming.

Everyone I've spoken to that watch and follow soccer, who've never even heard of Turkey, are now saying that Turkey games were so exciting. That they are the 'cardiac kids.'

These people have no idea that I am Turkish until I tell them, and they then start congratulating me as if I had something to do with the makeup of this team.

You're probably right nhrider, I am probably in denial...

The most exciting team in all of sports? in the US? Maybe the NY Giants, one of the teams I follow... or the NY Yankees, or the LA Lakers... but I have the city of Boston to thank for some heart breaks. And one out of three ain't that bad . . . Go Giants!

nhrider said...

Metin,

I will root for Turkey if you never mention the Yankees again!!!! Go Red Sox!!!

Metin said...

nhrider: LOL!!!

My allegiance to the Yankees exceed any other allegiances...

But for Turkey's sake, I'll give up being a Yankee fan for the day!

I am such a trooper . . . if my brother (a diehard Yankee fan) hears this, he'd kill me...

nhrider said...

I am just kidding. What are the Red Sox without the Yankees. You go ahead and be a Yankee fan. I will still cheer on Turkey for you!!!

What an 'exciting' game and an 'exciting' team to watch . . .

:)

There you go again! I feel sorry for the ones who can so easily pull the race card! It makes you wonder. I was hoping that it would be good too see some new teams emerging. Enough of watching the same draggy German and Italian football for decades.
